Venues love hosting passionate fans, making every event unforgettable.
I moved to NYC at the beginning of this year, and like many people new to a big city, I tried different meetups and apps. I quickly noticed my best connections were with fellow sports fans.
Watching games alone is fine—I do it all the time—but nothing beats cheering for your team with others (or, let’s be honest, a little friendly banter with opposing fans). Sports fans are a unique bunch: die-hard team loyalists, player-only fans, gamblers, fantasy freaks, and veterans. We’re loud, combative (trust me, I know), but there’s a camaraderie in that shared passion that’s hard to find elsewhere. I love matching those “sports vibes” together.
Over the past year, I’ve leaned into this passion: building my own fantasy basketball app, writing an NBA newsletter, and working at a fantasy sports startup.
Along the way, I’ve met so many fans who admit they’re lonely. I wanted to bridge that gap—so I built TheAssist. The app isn’t fully ready yet (whose MVP is?), but we just threw a Christmas day event and it was a good time! And we will continue to develop the app with further feedback.
If you’re around and want to squad up, come through. Let’s turn strangers into teammates.
